ViaGottardo

Basel-Chiasso

As the name suggests, the Gotthard crossing is at the center of this trail and at the same time the highlight.

From Basel to Lake Lucerne, the route leads through typical Swiss Lowlands.
After lake Lucerne, the trail leads quite often near the autobahn, which in our opinion isn't the best. It is impressive, because it is one of the most important highways in europe as it connects the north with the south, but not enjoyable for hiking.
From Amsteg it gets nicer, the "Schöllenen-Schlucht" with the legendary devil's bridge is impressive.
After the Gotthard crossing, the trail "joins" the autobahn again, which is... yeah, you know...
From Camorino it gets better, now it is how we know and appreciate little Italy (Ticino). The towns of Tesserete and Morcote are fantastic!

Would we do it? Yes, but not all of it
Would we do it again: No

Hint: If you want to do it, do it in autumn!

On the "Schweizmobil" page you find all the details.
